When we talk about backlinks, we are not speaking specifically about reciprocal link exchanges (i.e. site 1 links to site 2 and site 2 returns the link to site 1). Links need to be grown from diverse sources across the web. Engines see external links as other sites “voting” for relevancy of your site in relation to specified keywords. How to Choose a Search Engine Company

Choosing which search engine company to use can be a big task, or it can at least seem like it! But, following a few key suggestions can leave you feeling better about your decision and confident that you accomplished the task at hand.

First off know what you are getting into. If you are going to hire someone to do the work for you, you need to make sure that they will do what you want them to do. Often times you see ads for companies claiming to put your website into hundreds of search engines. Well, that’s not going to do you much good for two reasons. For one, they will more then likely be placing your ad or website link on free for all websites. That will more then likely not do you any good. Secondly, these sites that they do submit to (or search engines as they call them) usually do not generate enough traffic to effect your website. What search engine do you use when you want to search for something? More then likely it’s Google or Yahoo. Will this company submit your website to those? It’s doubtful.

Another thing to steer clear of are companies who claim to make your site number one on any search engine. That is just plan false.

So who do you use? Above all, use someone or a company you believe you can trust. View their webpages and decide if they make sense? Did they add keywords or other things that will “help” enhance the websites listing capabilities? If so, your page will probably look bad and therefore not help promote your product well. Use companies that come with good recommendations. In other words, ask someone you know how their experiences have been with said company.

How to Choose Keywords to Theme Your Pages and Boost Your Traffic

One of the most frequent questions I get asked is in the choice of keywords for a new site, specifically secondary keywords.. These are the words or phrases that you use when writing your content to help theme the page so that the search engines know what your page is about. These secondary keywords also help to bring in more traffic, because they add more depth to your page, meaning that your page is found for a lot more phrases than just the primary phrase you page is built around.

Let’s look at an example.

Suppose you were building a niche site on hemorrhoids.

One of your main pages is likely to be about treating hemorrhoids. Let’s use “hemorrhoid treatment” as our primary keyword phrase for this page (it has high searches, but also high competition, so secondaries are going to be working hard to get this page ranking high for related phrases).

So how do you find secondary keywords for use on this page? Surely there cant be many possible secondaries?

Well, you have a few options for finding secondaries. There is a paid service called Thememaster which a lot of marketers use for this purpose (search Google for this one if you are interested - I have not used it, so cannot recommend it). However, my own favourite method is using Keyword Results Analyzer. If you own it, you have all you need to find those secondaries.

I carried out research at Wordtracker for this niche, and imported them into KRA. One of the strengths of KRA is the filtering and reporting features. To find secondary keywords, I simply filter the phrases that contain the word “treat”. This will pull out all phrases containing treat, treatment etc. Since all phrases in my database are related to hemorrhoids, all phrases returned will be related to treating this condition.

KRA gives me 61 phrases that are searched for at the search engines related to hemorrhoid treatment. Now the difficulty is not how to find secondaries, it is how to choose from 61 related phrases (which is obviously too many for a single page).

Here are the 61 phrases:

Alternative Treatments Hemorrhoids
Best Hemorrhoid Treatment

If you used all of these phrases as they are, you would not only have a very large page, but you would have a very high density of certain words like treatment, treating. We obviously have to be very careful about not using a word too many times, so one of the useful features built into KRA is its unique keyword list report. This report shows you all of the unique words that make up a set of phrases. Here are the unique words that make up the above phrases:

alternative
az

treat

What this list gives you is a set of keywords that you can use in your content where they make sense. By adding these words to your page, you can theme your page so that it matches lots of frequently searched for phrases.

For example, if you used these words:

treat
treating
treatment
treatments

on your page, you would have the chance to rank in Google for “treat hemorrhoids”, “treating hemorrhoids”, “hemorrhoid treatment” & “hemorrhoid treatments”.

By also using Mispelled variations of hemorrhoids highlighted in this list:

haemerroid
haemmaroid
haemmeroids
haemorrhoids
haemorroid
hemarroid
hemmoroids
hemorhoid
hemorrhoid
hemorrhoids
Hemorrihoid
hemorroids

together with the above treatment words, you can expect to be found for search phrases containing every combination of the mispellings when searched with a treatment phrase. That’s 48 different search phrases that your page could be found for.

Now, the above example is one I don’t necessarily recommend you follow, since all those mispellings may make your page read very badly. But you get the idea.

Perhaps a better use of this type of unique keyword list would be to target the treatment/cure style keywords.

This would not look unnatural:

alternative
Care
cure
cures
doctor
drugs
herbal
herbs
holistic
Laser
med
natural
symptoms
treat
treating
treatment
treatments

Add these into your content, together with a couple of alternative spellings, and you can have a page that can potentially rank well for large numbers of hemorrhoid treatment related phrases.

Imagine if you were a search engines, and after analysing your page for theme, you found the above words (and one or two spellings of hemorrhoid).

Would you have any difficulty deciding which theme the page was about?

The Purpose of PageRank?

I am sure the first thought provoking question that popped into your head would be: what exactly is PageRank? Well PageRank can be summed up as how vital Google considers a particular webpage. Pagerank is a value from 0-10, zero being the least significant and ten of which few obtain being the most note-worthy. PageRank is often abbreviated as PR and Google determines this PR bye evaluating how many websites link to yours, even though many of these links are missed.

Who says Google gets to play the role of big brother? Google may be the leader that people praise and follow, yet why do webmasters allow themselves to be caught up in this publicity stunt? Sure it is a BASIC measurement of how much publicity a website is getting, but what is its real purpose?

As Pagerank gains ground webmasters loose sight of what they originally intended to accomplish. By writing this article I hope to give webmasters the foresight to distinguish that in the end PageRank won’t be what makes your website a success. Even though hard work and determination may help you achieve this success; skill, luck, and good timing play a bigger roll.

Many a-days I am sifting through my vast amount of spam mail and occasionally receive an email entitled “link exchange.” As I am always intrigued by possible link partners I typically read these emails.

When I come to an email that looks generic and has 100 mailers on the list I still give them a chance and then take a look at there website. Upon opening the website I am disgusted by the huge fonts and banners trying to sell me something, as a habit I look up at my toolbar and see that this website has a Pagerank of 6! What a possibility according to many website owners. The only opportunity I see in these types of links are purely PageRank building. On the other hand…

On a rare occurrence I come across an email titled “our partnership” as this email is already more intriguing I open it urgently and see a nice layout for this email that is directed towards me and my website. Anyways on with my point, I go to this website and see a terrific design plus they offer a unique service. According to habit and maybe a bit of my obsessive compulsive side I check the Pagerank. Humm, this website hasn’t even been indexed by Google yet? Should I exchange links with this website? I am sure most of you are thinking of course not, it would benefit my website in no way. On the contrary this website has the most potential to flourish and send you quality targeted unique’s!

What I am trying to prove is that because of this “higher power” aka Google PageRank people turn down websites that can provoke there own success! Why not put Google PageRank in a state of anarchy and let websites again be judged by there quality content and superior design!

Directly PageRank cannot be bought, though often I see links being sold at outrageous monthly costs on pages with a pr of 6 and up. Many times they will provide minimal traffic. Purchasing one of these links will not bring you any targeted traffic, or any traffic at all for that matter. A site wide link on a high pr website can and will boost your pr, but will it help promote and brand your website?

I am not trying to say boycott Google PageRank and start a protest, just merely use PR as a reference but not enough to influence you’re linking decisions and how much time you spend on link exchanges. I hope you walk away from reading this article with a more open mind towards linking with new websites. Understand that every website has potential there are just different degrees to this. You can’t earn a clients respect my running up to there door and desperately offering them your product, instead let them find you. Your approach to search engines shouldn’t be any different.

Concerned about the next PR update as attempting to get those last minute link partners up and running? Invest this time instead on building up quality content pages and the Google will find you!

How To Promote Your Site

Site promotion gimmicks and traffc techniques come and go, but the ones that really work are those that stand the test of time. This article highlights some of the most effective methods to promote your web site of all time.

1. Get Your Site High In The Search Engines

Getting your site linked high in the search engines for your keywords and keyphrases.

One of the best ways to do this is to ensure your site has a good number of incoming links from quality sites.

Also make sure that your site reflects the keywords/keyphrases that you are looking for - they should be in your title tag, your headline tags, and in your initial paragraphs. Don’t however over do it, or it will look like “keyword stuffing” and you will do more damage than good - just make sure they are there in a natural fashion.

Don’t aim for the most popular keywords, you will have a much harder time achieving success. Do some analysis using a tool such as WordTracker.com, and aim for keywords and keyphrases for which you have a fighting chance.

2. Create A Buzz

If your site offers something new and exciting, it creates a wow factor, and news about your site will spread far and wide with very little further effort on your part.

3. Don’t Waste Your Visitors

Every visitor that comes to your site is hard-earned - so don’t ‘waste’ them. You want them to come back, to return time and time again. This will ensure your traffc climbs over time, rather than remains static.

First, ensure your site doesn’t scare them away. Make it easy to use, visually appealing, and treat critical emails that you may receive from visitors from time to time like gold - while not all criticisms are valid representations of how the majority of visitors see your site, some of these emails can help you turn your business around if you listen in a positive manner instead of react negatively and defensively.

Secondly, try to subscribe as many visitors as possible to a list, so that you can correspond with them time and time again. Sending them news about your site for example will keep them coming back.

4. Pay-Per-Click Engines

Bidding for keywords on PPCs like Google Adwords won’t usually bring you large amounts of traffc, but if you do it carefully, the traffc it does bring you should be highly targeted and therefore very valuable.

The trick is to know your stats. Know exactly what your sals conversion rates are per keyword, and how much investmnt on each keyword is viable for you.

For example, let’s say your site sells artist pencils:

- If you are bidding $0.30 for the keyword ‘pencil’, each sale of a box of pencils brings you $10 proft, but if only 1 in 100 clicks for the keyword ‘pencil’ brings you a sale, you are spending $30 for each sale of $10, which is losing you a large amount of money.

- However, if you are bidding $0.10 for the keyphrase ‘artist pencils’, and 1 in 25 buys from your site, you are spending $2.50 on each sale that brings you a proft of $10, which is a profitable investmnt - i.e. it brings you a net proft of $7.50 per sale.

5. Strategic Linking

This can be one of the most important methods to generate traffc over the long-term. Not only can you receive traffc direct from the links, the more links there are, the higher your position will tend to be in the search engines.

The following two methods are the most effective ways to build up links, and concentrating on these can repay dividends over the long-term:

a. Article Submissions

The idea here is that you write an article that other webmasters and publishers can freely reprint on their web sites. Other sites and publishers desperately need content - you simply provide it. The pay-off for you is that to reprint it, they have to include your resource box that contains a link to your web site, and in the majority of cases, the link will be of the valuable non-reciprocal kind.

By writing your article and then distributing it as widely as possible, you can end up with hundreds of incoming links to your site from other quality web sites. This can be the most effective site promotion strategy there is.

b. Your Own Affliate Program

With an affliate program, people link to your site and receive a commission on any sals that result from their referrals.

This provides a strong encouragement for others to provide links to your site - the trick is to ensure the affliate link actually links direct to your domain and not through a third-party site, otherwise they will get the benefit from the link rather than you.
